Mar Musa is very popular, although even here there are at the moment no "tourists". The monastery is located on a hill, around 17km from the nearest village. You can stay here (for free) as long as you want- all you need to do is some little help with some duties. Very open place. The atmosphere made me a bit lazy... I also feel a bit weird, everyone (and there are some Europeans, but they've ale been here -in Syria -for a longer while) speaks Arabic. And as there are no tourists I feel stupid not knowing Arabic ;) In the morning there was a mass in Arabic, it was probably the first time I liked something despite not understanding it. One of the goals of this place is to develop the Christian-Muslim dialogue. It is worth coming here for the sake of this place, but also one can also meet here interesting people. The organizer of the monastery (a return to an centuries-old tradition) is a Jesuit - Italian and fluent in several languages -happens very rarely among Italians.
