April 9, 2011

Barely I finished a very rich breakfast I set off. Immediately I caught a ride to the border, but we stopped for lunch -although I was still full after breakfast. (Recently I have become quite fat:)
I was very exited about getting to Syria (as in the consulate in Istanbul I asked for a visa, and they said I can only get it in the country I'm a resident of. Fortunately in the web I've read that  tourists can get it at the border as well as llthey can refuse you a visa and apparently it takes a few hours ...) Finally we arrived at the border. Bum -in my passport I get an exit stamp from Turkey. Will I get a Syrian visa? It's 5 in the afternoon ... they ask me to pay 100 AUD (auch how expensive!) and I get a multiple-entry visa valid for 6 months. Stress disappears, there's only excitement left. Quickly I reach Aleppo, where I have another host. Syria is significantly different from Turkey ...
