I have no luck to border crossings. Yesterday I reached Abukamal experiencing several difficulties on the way (apparently there are also people killed and I was also discouraged from going there), but the soldiers standing on guard at the entrance of the city would not let me in saying, that the border is closed (with numerous checks on the way -couldn't they have told me earlier?). I was attractive enough for these soldiers so that they wanted to have a picture with me. Then they put me on a minibus back to Deir Zour - I was tired and a little depressed, that it didn't even cross my mind to oppose. In Deir Zour I bathed in the Euphrates in August, then again, a control by the military -rather vacantly lost time, and again they put on a bus. Today, finally, I reached Al-Yerubijeh another border crossing with Iraq, but here I was advised that only Arabs can get a visa at the border (Arabs advised me to go there) and I need to aquire one from the embassy. Two days wasted on trying to reach Iraq. I tried going to Turkey, but I came to the nearest crossing point too late (18.30) and I have to spend another night here. At least I took part in a Muslim prayer in the mosque - for the first time in my life. It's hard to get out of Syria (3 attempts so far), although I'm a little tired of military checks and "openness" of people, I would be gladly move on.
